Collection: Stewart Heritage Farm Yarn
Alpaca and alpaca blend yarns created from fiber harvested from Stewart Heritage Farm alpacas.
Our alpacas are sheared once a year, usually towards the end of April. Once the alpacas are sheared, fleeces are skirted to remove vegetation. When skirting the prime fiber, any fiber that is not consistent with the main blanket is removed. An initial determination on how the fiber will be used is made at that time. Only the finest fiber goes into making yarn that can be used for your knitting and crochet projects you may wear next to your skin. Sometimes the decision is made to process the fleece from one alpaca alone. Other times, the decision is made to combine two or more fleeces based on the goal for the end product.
Our farm yarns are small batch milled. Each batch is unique and although we sometimes attempt to duplicate certain runs, it’s almost impossible to create an exact duplicate batch. For this reason, be sure to order enough yarn for your specific project.
